I was messing around with the startup screen the other day, and tried to find it. I thought it was logo.sys, but I couldn't find that file in the Windows directory or in the root directory, or anywhere else for that matter. The shutdown screens, logow.sys and logos.sys are there, but not the startup screen logo.sys. Did Win98se rename it or something?

I was going to say in the root directory of C: as with Win95....but then when I looked, it wasn't there. io.sys in Win9x actually contains a copy of the logo in the file as well....under Win95, it served as a backup in case logo.sys was deleted....it simply brought up the one inside io.sys. I assume it's probably using the one in there. Create a logo.sys of your own that conforms to the normal requirements, and then place it in the root directory. It should take priority in display over the one in io.sys.

That's what I did. I created a logo.sys of the same resolution as the 2 shutdown screens, and saved it as BMP format, but under a .sys extension. I placed it in both the Windows directory and the root directory, but Windows still uses the default startup screen.
