Where does this picture originate from?

The pic on the left is from Iwo Jima in WWII.

From what I remember from the history channel, that picture was actually reshot after it was done the first time because the flag was too small in the original.

I think what happened was that this was the second actual flag raising on Iwo Jima because the first flag was too small. However, the shot was not posed or reshot on purpose.

That, and it didn't look as nice...But by the time they got the first flag up, the commander on the battleship said that he wanted the largest flag they could find...so they redid it...
