Anyone dealt with Monarch before?
They both appear to be the Winchester variation (90nm) ... but that's a large price variation.
 
Yup. Thats why I ordered from Monarch. But they are slower than snails. It has been almost a week, and my order hasn;t even shipped yet ! They are supposed to be OK for reseller rating, but not close to newegg !
 
Winchester is the best performing A64 3200+ out there right now.

There are currently three types.

3200+ Newcastle.
3200+ Clawhammer.
3200+ Winchester.

The first two are on a 130 nm process. The second has 1 megabyte of L2 cache (which doesn't really affect performance), while the first has half the cache, but 200 mhz more speed. The last has 200 mhz less than the Clawhammer, same cache as the Newcastle, but is based on a 90nm process (therefore it can OC much better) and has the additional support of SSE3.

Last I checked they did not add support for SSE3 yet on an AMD. And Newegg has no mention of it on there specs for the product.

 
So no one can explain why the NewEgg one is so much higher?

I'd understand if the Monarch one was the 130nm version ... the Newcastle ... but that's not what it says, so it's confused me.
Be a whole lot easier if Monarch would give a full description. 🙁
 
The price at Newegg actually started out much lower than its current price, and then increased dramaticly in several steps. Basicly, they underestimated demand for the chips and raised their prices when it started to sell too well. I don't have a link offhand, but when I was looking for prices I found a forum thread elsewhere that tracked NewEgg's prices as they went up.

And I bought my 3500+ from Monarch, since at the time they were the only ones who had one. Based on that one data point, they weren't bad on shipping speed and charged me what they said they would. YMMV
 
My .90nm 3200+ overclocked from 2.0 to 2.5ghz with no problems at all. Maybe it could go more? Who knows, but my point is thats one for one so Id imagine the majority of the chips overclock very well.
 
Yep Monarch is pretty much okay... Newegg is just tryin to make some money as supply of those processors is currently short.
