Where does the Radeon 32meg DDR stand today?

I have this card in my system, and before I go to upgrade to a new video card I'm kind of curious as to where I 'fit' in the scale of cards today. I can still play almost any game at 1024 with varying levels of eye candy (maxed out for Warcraft 3, on Low for planetside).

Would a Radeon 9100 or 9200 be a lot better? I currently think I'm going to get the 9800 pro, but want to wait until prices drop. How about the Radeon 8500? Would that be a big improvement?

And btw, I looked everywhere.. my card is no longer in any modern day benchmarks so I literally have no clue. :)

i would say it's around a 7000 or 7200 radeon. i still remember paying ~$165 for my radeon 32ddr and thought it was a great deal. i think an 8500 would be a decent upgrade, or 9700 if you can swing it.

With the next wave of Games.. HL2 and D3 your card's going to get slapped around like a red headed step child. If your going to upgrade, it may as well be to a DX9 class card. Sounds to me like you fall a notch below the true fanatical "hardcore" gamer, and given that., I'd recommend a 9800 non pro ($299 MSRP/250 Street) or a FX 5800 non-ultra ($299 MSRP/$240 Street).

Good Luck,
CH2

Thanks for the info everyone.

Yeah, I was literally about to buy the Radeon 9800 pro along with all new parts for a new computer. However, Doom 3 was delayed and now Half Life 2.. so I figure I am going to try and hold out a bit longer. In the next few months a slew of new hardware is going to be out (Prescott, AMD64, new video cards, etc).

And honestly this card has been awesome. It's actually just a Radeon LE which I got for like $70 overclocked to a full speed Radeon 32DDR. By far the best video card purchase ever. I cry everytime I see my Viper 770 Ultra box I paid $250 for! lol

I don't really see any reason to upgrade to a 8500 or something if you're just waiting a while to buy a 9800 pro, especially if you can run all you want to with your current card.
