same, auction

where would you find info on this stuff? never heard of such an auction before

Dunno where, but iirc they have to wait quite a while before the can sell your sh!t which means they dont have very many(once a year type deal) Where as in a police auction, you owe the gov money, you're in jail, gov authorizes your confiscated sh!t to be sold.

they smoke it and pretend they flushed it.
Or did you not mean drugs?

Ohh, he was talking about the drugs...yep what IEatChildren said; they smoke it.

Which is always a good time to try and sneak more through. TRY IT! 😀

I can see the ad now an auction listing for confiscated box cutters, toe nail clippers, and pocket knives slightly used.

The airport in Birmingham, AL has a box to deposit your "illegal wepons" right before the medal detector. I thought it was quite amusing

My friend was going to start a part time business based on this. He was going to offer to mail/deliver these knives and such to the owners home for a small fee.

Do you really think that airport security would allow this Cyberian? Besides, I'm sure if & when this would be allowed, FedEx, UPS & USPS will already have the needed infrastructure in place 🙁

I have no idea about security. My friend never got as far as applying for permits, licenses, etc.

I tried to bring a swiss knife through a checkpoint. The TSA agents offered to mail it home for me if I pay $7 for S/H. I agreed and the knife arrived a few days later. That's pretty cool. This was in a North Carolina airport. I'm sure this service would not apply to guns and bombs 😛

edit: As for the original question, I believe the confiscated items are destroyed.

Ebay, and I'm not kidding. Some of the larger airports auction off all the stuff on Ebay. I read a news article awhile back on it and checked a few of the links. Some of the auctions were for stuff like "Box of 5,000 jackknives!" etc.

The TSA at San Jose took my pen screwdriver and put it into his own pocket. I got a feeling he is enjoying my screwdriver/flashlight combo.

ebay...

And not just passengers get things taken....an airline capt I know had his Leatherman confiscated...he had carried it every flight since hired 1976. They also dissasemble his mag-lite on 95% of his trips.

Actually, I just heard on the radio Friday that the TSA was about to award a private company a contract to destroy all the confiscated items. The contract was worth somewhere around 18 mil iirc.

The items could be given to charity but that wouldn't really make sense

I mean, this is the government we're talking about so we either have a perfect example of a mind blowing lack of common sense or a payoff for someone. Take your pick.

In Memphis, I wouldn't be suprised if the TSA workers "take some goodies" home with them from time to time

Hell yea, I used to live up there; I wouldn't put it past those asshats.
