I have a 24K gold necklace which I hardly wear. Since gold is almost $900 an ouce I would like to sell it for cash. I know local jewerly stores probably will buy it for a discount and online merchant like cash4gold.com will also buy it, but I like to maximumize my selling price. Where is a good place to sell gold?

I sold my silver at a pawn shop in college, not sure how they were on pricing but they bought it.

By fair price do you mean a switchblade in the spine?

I'll see you there! I wouldn't trust people from Craigslist. The worse case scenerio is to sell it to a local jewerler and take a discount.

With gold prices this high, I wonder if my wife would be adverse to us selling our wedding rings....

Great idea.

Try it and post results here.

See if there is a precious metals broker in the area. You'll get a fair price minus their discount, which is usually a reasonable amount.

Remember, the price you're seeing is for pure gold. Your necklace is not pure gold. You may be disappointed.

Certainly not!

...

I can't afford a switchblade, I was just going to bash him in the head with a brick :(

I thought 24Karat is pure gold.

It's 24K gold plated would be my guess. As was said, 24K gold is too soft for jewelry.

My grandparents still are gold miners, and in the summer sometimes I will go help them work for a weekend (placer deposits mostly).

We have a local place that buys gold for pretty close to market value, thats where I take any gold that I get. They also buy gold jewelry too, as I would imagine most precious metal brokers would.
