I'm building a four post bed and I would like to use 4-5" bamboo for the posts, but when I search on the net for bamboo, all I find is (expensive) furniture! Home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes don't seem to sell it either. I need the four posts and some 3/4"-1" pieces for trim.

Any ideas?

Try Home Depot, or one of the other building supply stores. :)

Hehe, actually, theres a bamboo forest hidden away in a little secret place on our college campus. I have a 6 foot bamboo stick sitting in my dorm room that I ripped from there. Pretty srong sh*t.

If you want to get bamboo that is prepared and sold like lumber, you might have to order it specially. However, you can buy bamboo plants to grow at most big plant stores, with this method though, you have to grow and prepare the bamboo to use it for making stuff.

There's a place about 3 miles from here. I think they have 20 acres, all they do is grow and sell bamboo. You don't happen to live near Santa Cruz, California, do you?

Jonny...go to a place that sells display decorations. Thats where I get mine but be forewarned....the thick Bamboo costs a bundle and also it wil crack,,not maybe or perhaps..... it will crack for sure. A split will form down one side and maybe both sides. That's why one usually sees bamboo no thicker than about 1 1/2"

The stuff is strong and you have to drill to scrrew into it. I have seen picture of high-rise buildings being built with bamboo scaffolding hundreds of feet high. Good luck.

<< try the bamboo store on bamboo street in the bamboo district  >>

lol, I think that's a good idea also. I've never seen bamboo anywhere. I'd have to say a specialty lumber company also, which one, beats me :/

That's actually a great idea. The whole 4 post bamboo bed idea came from a number of displays upstairs in Burdine's dept. store. They no longer have these displays... I wonder what they did with them.....

That's what I do for a living mon ami and that's where I get mine. Sometimes dept. stores get rid of their older display materials so you could get lucky but then agian bamboo is very useful in displays so they night want to re-use it but you can always try . I know any display house will carry it.

Whatever you do, don't plant the stuff! It'll take over your yard faster than you can blink, grow super-high, and it's a pain to clear!

The stuff grows here in Oregon, so I'm SURE it must be growing in Fla. someplace.

Just look around, I'm sure you can find it somewhere!

Hmm... I'll keep at it. Was hoping there'd be an easy answer or that there'd be someplace on line.

Oh well. ;)
