Where does a file go when i delete it over the network?

Whenever i delete a file from my main comp (XP Pro) off my server (Win 2k) i can never find it, its not in either computers recycle bins.

i think its just plain gone... ive made that mistake before and went diggin in the recycle bin to find nothing but im not it professional so i might be wrong. anyways im interested in the answer too so heres a bump

Correct, however if it is critical there is recovery software that might be able to retrieve it, BEFORE it is overwritten on the drive. When you delete a file, even from the recycle bin, the data is still there, 1's and zero's, until you write over it with new data. You just can't get to it with windows without help via software. Or sending it off for very expensive data recovery solutions.

There's a good chance you'll be able to get it back as long as it wasn't over-written it physically. There's few free data-recovery tools available. I think there might be few on the "Ultimate Boot CD". Search on google.

I didnt actually lose any files i was just wondering in case i ever do.
