Before I make my next large appliance purchase I'm going to check out Lowes and Home Depot. They're carrying more appliances these days.

I know Home Depot was offering 10% off any one purchase if you registered with them online around Christmas time.

I'm in the middle of the process of getting a fridge from Sears... they'll price match most places like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Just shop around. Since the guys there work on commission, they seem happy to make the sale, even if it is a price match (but I have no idea how the commission works for them on price matches. I recently pricematched an 1199 fridge to their 1549 price. (extra $35 after the 110% guarantee)

Unfortunately, the $*%&# cancelled my order because they couldn't get one in stock :frown:

I'm sitting in Sears right now. Someone needed to leave for a few days on "compassionate grounds" so I'm a substitute apparently. :) Do you have any questions?

Do NOT get a GE. The motor on ours went out in less than a year, and the customer service is a joke.

that sounds like a tall order to fill, and an unlikely one at that. check here
that is sears' list of bottom mounts. $650 for an 18cu ft, so you can assume that on sale you might find it for $550, maybe a bit less, but a 20cuft, you might find a clearance model on the floor in some store, but that'd be your only chance of such a find, i'd think.

Try shopping between some of the bigger stores. Find a model you like at one store and pricematch it against another store that has a better than 100% pricematch gaurantee. Otherwise, I think you'll need to readjust your views as to what is possible. Bottom mount freezers are crazy expensive for what you get. You'll have to decide which factors are most important for you: Size, bottom mount, or price. b/c you will not find the three factors you listed. :) (save for a scratch and dent or some such thing)

Or you might want to try a real store instead of Sears. Go to a small store that will deal with you. There is a very nice GE bottom mount that retails around $650. You can surely talk someone at a non-box store down to your price range.

Don't forget the local mom and pop appliance stores. I found the identical fridge for 10 percent less that Lowes or HD, and then they discounted it a bit more.

At the same place I bought a duel fuel convection range that was more than an hundred bucks LESS than Home Depot, or so I thought. When I looked closer, I found HDs more expensive range was then next model DOWN.

If you have a Sears scratch and dent place around, check them out! I got my fridge there for a lot less than retail. They have 100's of them lined up and you just find one you like, load it up and go. I don't know how many of these places there are around the US, but there are 2 in the Atlanta area.

A loss is still a loss, and no store is going to sell to you for under cost, or they will cease to be in business for long!

The Sears outlet here. I got one of those fridge on the bottom/two door to fridges (kenmore elite) for half price because it had a scratch and a small dent on the side. That side is now surounded by cabinets and can't be seen. Love the fridge.

A bit of FYI.

Only one company make bottom freezer models (Amana I think), regardless of who's name is on it, Amana made it. Amanas arent all they used to be, several appliance guys have told me Amana's stuff gets more and more call-backs all the time.

I have also heard that botom freezer models tend to be the most prone to needing repairs.

My sister had one a few years back and hated the bottom freezer so badly, she still curses it to this day. :D

Check around your area for refurbs or damaged items. I know a guy that picked up a stainless steel fridge with a freezer drawer in the bottom. This AWESOME refridgerator was around $2000 in the books and he picked it up for $800 because it had a few dents and a small scratch on one side. I'm guessing some rich guy sent it back after it got damaged on the install.

Thats were I bought my range and fridge. Think I paid $200 for both over 2 years ago and they are in great shape. I think the fridge was only a year or two old when I bought it. I am not one of those people that has to have new stuff though. I know people that find that disgusting for some reason. Like the last people stored their grandma in the fridge or something :).

Just FYI, Home Depot is offering 10% off your first purchase if you sign up for a Home Depot card.

Not sure if that's nationwide or not.
