Where do you purchase your software?

Where do people find the best deals on software?

I am interested in purchasing XP Pro this week.

What's all the hub-bub about the problems with Service Packs?

I've read that SP2 is problematic.

Is the free test version of the XP 64 worth messing around with?

There are no problems with service packs, sp2 works fine. newegg and other such sites have decent deals on OEM Windows licenses.

Sp2 is only problematic for people with problems.

A free test version is always worth a look. Read some reviews first.

Buying software is highly variable. A lot depends on what is available to you in the corporate or academic world.

The only people I have seen that have had problems with the upgrade to SP2 were ones that had spyware and/or viruses present on their system. Just make sure your system is clear of all malware and you should be fine.

I would go with an online retailer like newegg because you can find the OEM copies that aren't typically in retail stores. if you're a student, check out your school's bookstore. Academic licenses are even better deals than OEM.

LOL "purchase software" Open source and freeware is the only way to go! That said, I think Newegg has some deals on the OEM version of XP and if you are a student there are even better deals. Why not try a Windows clone like Xandros and save your money for more hardware?
