I'm a fan of buying almost everything used, but I draw the line at plush items that creepy crawlies can hide in. My worst pest problem is ants, and a couple mice when the weather gets cool. I'd like to keep it that way.

I always get a better nights sleep in a hotel bed than I do in my own bed, and I doubt the hotel mattresses are new when I sleep on them. I think there was a slick deal where the W Hotel was doing something similar. Cheaper than buying one new, and more than likely cleaner than your own mattress, as good hotels change the sheets often.

Hotels do sell their used mattresses, but usually through a liquidator.

I would like to point out that a major function of a bed is the absorption of liquids.

For this reason a decade-old bed is probably not worth sleeping on.

I just look for ones on the side of the road and use them.

Try the park and rides. I've always had good luck getting mattresses and underwear from the woods that surround them. The more isolated lots have a better selection :^D

Large hotels replace their mattresses and box springs every year. They are usually quality products from name brand manufacturers. I suspect the folks freaking out over the concept of buying a used bed also get the willies over buying used clothes, dishes, cars and, computer equipment. There are these little known magical devices called 'steam cleaners' that work just dandy on mattresses.

steam cleaners won't get rid of bedbugs.

Seems like a safe bet. One of my friends had to move because the 4plex she lived in had bed bugs. The damn things are impossible to kill.

I would simply seal the mattress in a plastic bag after using insecticide and let it sit a couple of days before bringing it into the house.
