Where do you learn to photochop stuff?

I'm jealous that I can never get in on the photochop threads because I can't do ****** with PS except change the briteness and contrast. Where'd you guys learn to do stuff....like combine two pictures into one, or pieces from one picture into another and make the shading match

The key is having waii too much free time on your hands, or actually using the program for work helps 😉

I've got photography and editing as one of my interests in my SumbleUpon, and it takes me to all kinds of cool photoshop tutorials. I use Firefox, but I'm pretty sure IE has StumbleUpon also...give it a try.

i'll have to get that add-on! thanks!

Just open up PS and play with stuff...

I learned making sigs for FPS shooter forums I belonged to. Then only after you have reached your limit and found a style check out good-tuts.com and learn stuff you never did before. Or I guess you could read the manual (that's how I taught myself Dreamweaver and eventually HTML, MySQL, and Java).

Combining pics is as simple as pasting one on top of the other, provided they are the same size. Once you do that, photoshop treats each pic as a "layer" within the .PSD file, and you can then manipulate each layer separately with effects.

good-tuts.com is an online degree mill...

Question....on this page: http://nicora.net/index.cfm?method=arti...d=724D0CB0-9EE5-AD0B-89D3-32F24228AD7C the guy talks says "Now, once finished add another new adjustment layer like before only this time select "Hue/Saturation". The attempt here is to bring out the colors, now depending on the photograph, this can change dramatically, or even be skipped if there was no trouble with the colors to begin with. You can see what I chose to do in the screen shot."

Does that mean copy the background layer and make the new layer an Overlay layer, and then adjust the hue and saturation??

He talks about overlays earlier, but never adjustment layers so I'm confused

edit: Also, when he's talking about editing the gradient...where the ****** did he find that huge option panel with all those options??? I don't have that on my copy of CS2...

Back in Photoshop 5.0, I learned straight from the Classroom in a Book. I think you'll get a lot out of that.

I search for tutorials specifically for what I want to accomplish.

"Replace head", "Remove object from picture" or "Make photo look CGI-like" or something like that. I have never had luck just playing around aimlessly and hoping to learn something.

I remember this was the first time I tried to do something in Photoshop (when Shawn was given a vacation): NSFW

That's as good a method as any, really.

It all depends on how you learn. Everything I know about photoshop is because I had the desire to do something with it. Sit down, take some time with the program with a goal in mind, and maybe you'll teach yourself what you want to do and then some other things when you f' up.

Threads like this make me wonder if anyone on this forum ever pays for software like Photoshop. Everyone is so flippant about how to learn:

"Just open it up and start playing around."

Yeah, it's only $650. Just open it up and start playing with it. 😀

Many people were able to get very cheap versions in their student store in college.

I believe that Photoshop Elements has a large amount of the same capabilities, and a similar interface, and costs ~$80.

art and photograpghy are not my thing until I was hired by major movie studio I have worked on some 20+ blockbuster movies until I was laid off due to 9/11 terriost attack. Ever since I started learn to use layers and stuff. Layers are easy to work with different pictures into one picture.

i am also learning PS and i opened a site for tutorials in my sig. i will try to keep them updated with new ones.

Solution = The Gimp

Or if you find that somewhat difficult

Solution 2 = Paint.Net
