I was demolishing an old store and found a safe that was about 2.5' cubed in the back, with the combination written on a piece of paper taped to the back of it. It was empty, but it has served me well for about 10 years.

It is too heavy to move easily, so a thief would have trouble walking away with it.

Thieves typically bring dollies and a truck.

The hard drive might need to be kept outside. I think it was a post here, possibly by Rubycon, which noted that fire safes are made to keep papers inside from burning during exposure to some amount of time in a house fire. So something over 400°F.

I don't know what's going to happen to a hard drive at that temperature, but I'm going to guess that it might not be a good thing.

Maybe cloud storage somewhere, using a heavily-encrypted Truecrypt volume? Though that kind of service probably has one of those marketing lines of "Your data is totally safe with us!" but the fine print says "Your data may vanish or become corrupted at any time and without warning, and you can't hold us responsible. No refunds."

My most important snippets of information stay with me on my thumbdrive, thoroughly encrypted.

Have a safe in the house, and two others other places. Just make sure it's decent quality, and properly bolted/strapped down.

All my money, diamonds, jewels, gold bars and coins along with my Perry Como Christmas album are kept in the bedroom under slat number 3 on my wooden floor. Now remember you can't just pull it up, you have to push in that slat at the end nearest the wall to get to all that stuff. I live at:

1514 Almond Brook Drive
Houston, TX 77024

And remember, I'm never home between the hours of 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM Monday thru Friday and sometimes Saturdays. Oh yeah, before I forget, there is a key under the front door mat.

I answered the question in the thread asking who has experienced marijuana since I have not and was not incriminating myself. However, the question this thread is focused on is one I am not going to answer.

"Yes, I have all my important documents kept right here ..."
No way, Jose. You are going to have to search for it.
