Where do you guys dump your oil after you've cooked a decent meal?

I can't stand it at my g/f's house. They just leave it in the pan, or they expect you to put the oil back into the already tiny topped oil bottle (empty of course).

But anyways, where do you guys empty your oil to?

After a nice cooked bacon meal =?

Usually into an only glass yar the I keep sealed ALL the time, and never reuse. When it's full, I just throw it in the trash.

My parents always kept a coffee can for bacon grease etc., but I usually scrape into garbage, or run down drain with extremely hot water (is that bad?).

I do the same thing. I will just dump it down the drain with some really hot water.

If its bacon grease however, and I know I'm going to have perogies in the next couple of days, I'll keep it until then... :D

yo-ma-ma. i do the same thing. i figured there's a nice BIG solidified chunck of grease somewhere in the pipes below my apartment. but i'm moving out in 2 months , so i don't really think about it. hehe

can anyone confirm that this is indeed a BAD method of dealing with grease?

When you dump it down the drain it can then harden and clog your pipes (eventually)

<edit>think of it like making a candle. You dip the string in, let it dry, then dip it in again. So you are dumping it down the drain, letting it dry, then dumping more in.

My Mom uses bacon grease for refried beans so sometimes I will save it in a glass container that I have, otherwise, I keep an empty can near the stove and pour any unwanted grease into it and throw it away when it gets full.

I heard on some type of 'home show' (Home Matters?) that if you are going to dump grease down the drain you should put it in the garbage disposal side and run cold water so it can harden and break up.

<Coffee cans work great. >

Yup, especially if you keep it in the freezer (doesn't smell when you pour more in). When it's full, throw it out on the day they pick up the garbage.
