I need more sources of tech news. I use the Appy Geek app on my Android devices, but I want specific websites as well. What do you recommend?

Ars is my favorite tech-centric news site. It's kind of generalist, while still centered around tech.

also ars

any other websites like it?

Not that I'm aware of. I also like reddit for specific niches. The quality's highly variable, but you get links from all over the web, and can get fine detail on subjects that get glossed over by a generalist site.

The Verge. Engadget. If you want some specific Mobile news, MobileNations might be good. They have separate websites for each OS.

I get linked to them a lot from some subreddits. They have good overviews of policy and law.

so what else do you read besides ars and reddit and techdirt?

anything else you get linked to that is interesting?

None I specifically remember. Reddit is just user submitted links from all over the web. Blogs, big sites, manufacturer websites... They could be from anywhere, and you sometimes get a gem from an otherwise unremarkable site.

Engadget if I'm on my computer. Engadget and The Verge on mobile apps, The Verge's website is way way to busy. If I feel like reading some nonsense I'll fire up BGR.

PCworld, Cnn/tech, tech news world, Gizmodo and too many other sites to remember.

Engadget.

If I'm bored:

The Verge
Gizmodo
Gizmag
Dailytech
ARS
Google News - Technology
Anandtech

I'm very hardware-oriented, so I mostly stick on Engadget. The Verge has some interesting in-depth articles at times, and I like to catchup on Gizmag every once in awhile just to see new toys. Gizmodo is fun, especially their new Sploid section:

http://sploid.gizmodo.com/

But mostly just Engadget.

Gaming tech: IGN, Youtube, PCGamer, Gameinformer, anything else
PC tech: I don't search PC tech, I only look it up when I want to buy something new
TV tech: I honestly like CNET quite a bit, still pretty standard fare
Cell tech: I don't research cell tech, I look it up when I want to buy something new
