To be honest just download the songs off torrent, its too expensive to pay for them on iTunes.

You can find rock and rap type stuff on there as well, but often it's just streaming, no free downloads.

Hey, Neckbeard, how close to Wokingham are you? I'm considering doing the AT community a favour by coming round to your place and cockpunching you.

Mp3 and other forms of lossy compression suck balls. No way in hell I'm paying $1 a song for that crap.

FLAC FTW.

emusic and amazon

amazon ftw, theres not much i actually buy, as im a paid pandora user and love it, but if i get something, its from amazon. a buck a song for DRM free music, and whole albums are often priced less than a buck a song for most of what im interested in

I get 99% of mine from the radio. Songs are so overplayed that by the time I would want to buy them I'm already tired of them. When I do buy them I prefer Amazon's lack of DRM

I'm still programmed to use old fashioned CD's. I use Amazon and CD Exchange, a local chain that buys and sells used CD's and DVD's. Amazon also sells used media, and is awesome for research. Most cases you can hear a segment of the song.

I don't like itunes because I've seen issues with Windows 7, plus it's a pain in the ass. If I pay for something I want to be able to keep it myself (burn it etc). If you don't think about that until you're HD crashes, you lost your music you paid for.

I agree $0.99 is too much for mp3's considering the quality, but if I'm only looking for individual songs I'll get them from Amazon.

I've given in and embraced the rental model. I've got a Rhapsody subscription. I can deliver about any tune I want to my PC, my iPhone, my wife's MP3 player, and my whole house distributed audio system for $14 a month. No worries about trojan horses, cease and desist notices from recording industry, crappy recordings, ect. It's all right there easily available.

I haven't actually listened to a CD in years. I have a ton of music on a Seagate Freeagent HD and all I need to do to listen in the car is plug in the USB cable. The CD slot in the car has become about as useful as a cassette slot.

I really want to get a Zune pass, but they will never allow it to run on an iPhone. :(

I disagree, certain things should be free to everyone. Music, Software etc. Also I realise that Van Gogh wasn't famous until he was dead, I don't give a shit if people become famous, if people are just making music to become famous then they definitely don't deserve my money.
Why don't you go code us up some free software. Thanks. Please don't take too long either, and if there are any bugs in it I will sue you for all you have. And your family, too. And people you've met.

Can we get this thread back on topic? Spotify is not avalible in the US right now is there an alternative? I would love a way to stream music so I can find things worth buying. I also hate Pandora.

I'll respond to you, grooveshark.com. Can stream a lot of things and as often as you like.

For the vast majority...Zune Pass.

For songs that aren't on Zune - Amazon MP3 first, iTunes second.

For stuff I want that isn't on any of those...Amazon (ya know, I actually purchase the CD, crazy).

I try to get new releases the first week. They usually discount them to make sure that people purchase.

After dealing with format wars, (computer) corruption, DRM, and the general PITA a purely electronic format has become, I have gone back to buying CDs.

As far as identifying things I may like - satellite radio and a note pad.
