I just washed the car and noticed a gash in one of the side-walls. The tires are old and need replacement anyway. I was just wondering what the consensus was on where to buy new tires.

Thanks ...

Walmart, Sam's Club, or Costco. Last two I had it done at Costco but I've heard good things about Discount Tires so I might check them out in the future.

I find the cheapest place online, print it out & do a pricematch at my local Discount Tire.

Tires are like used cars or mattresses, they have a huge profit margin and there's lots of room to dicker if you're good at it.

As said above, get the prices for what you want online and see if you can find a local shop to pricematch.

I use a local shop. Just a few bucks more than tirerack, maybe $15-25 per tire.

No shipping, dont get raped on mount and balance, fix flats for free and free rotate and balance for the life of the tire.

If you want to buy your tires online you need to either be able to mount them yourself or know a mechanic who is willing to do it at a reasonable price. Any large chain tire place will want an insane amount of money to install and balance tires that they didn't sell.

My local garage charges the same amount whether I buy the tire from it or not. If the garage's tire price is only a bit higher, I'll pay the extra to give them the business instead of a chain store or TireRack.

+1 for the local guys. Since I give them my business, they also mount my motorcycle tires for about 20 bucks each. Which is about 30 bucks cheaper than a motorcycle dealer :D

I goto America's Tire Co. They'll price match tirerack (+$10 for shipping) and the mount/balance is cheaper that bringing in my own tires. I think I've bought 4 sets of tires from them in the last 4 years or so.

EDIT: I'd use Costco but they won't mount non-OEM sizes. Screw that.

Tirerack.com

I've never had a standard automotive place charge me extra to install tires I've bought else where.
I have had most motorcycle dealers try and do it to me though.

If youre concern with price then tirerack.com is a good place to start. But I'd rather pay alittle more at a nationwide tire chain (america's tire, discount tires..ect) for the convienence that if anything happens to the tire I can take it in rather than waiting to have one shipped back out from an online store.

I get my Nitto 555R 315/35/17s on ebay whenever I see them around $300 a pair.

Costco, Discount Tires, or Les Schwab.

Tirerack is pointless IMO as Discount will pricematch them while also providing local service.

Costco has tire sales every 6 months or so, that's when I try to pick them up. Limited selection, but usually they carry good tires. The only "problem" as others have noted is being forced to get the OE size.

I get mine at Tirerack, Discount Tires (tires.com), or NTB. Always try to pricematch to the lowest price you find!!!
