Where do you buy your monitors?

I want a 19 incher, and I'm not looking to spend too much money. I took a look at Best Buy, but they seemed pretty pricey, of course. The cheap online stores often have huge shipping costs....

I'm considering buying used. So where do you shop?

I got a great deal on my monitor from CDW, the shipping charge was really reasonable. Dell has deals all the time on monitors, especially LCD ones. I hear great things about Monitors Direct too. I think Staples has free shipping, and with all of the online coupons (which cant be posted here), you can usually find a pretty good deal.

I go to pricegrabber.com and see who is less. I try and stay away from companies with bad ratings and go from there. Usually you can find someone whose shipping costs are reasonable. I just purchased a Viewsonic VP171B (LCD) from ebuyer.com. It was my first purchase from them but they had free shipping, it shipped the day I ordered and got to me fairly quickly. They were the lowest on pricegrabber and newegg was $5 more. I know newegg is good but they don't guarantee same day shipping so I took the chance on ebuyer. It worked out fine for me.

I got my 19 inch Philips CRT at a local Staples with lots of rebates. Shop around and you're likely to find a good deal, not to mention that you'll not need to pay shipping if you buy a monitor from Staples B&M. ;)

How does a 19 inch NEC CRT monitor for $200 bucks, no shipping cost sound?

Or a Phillips 19 inch for $185?
I've got a very similar Philips (the 109B2) and it's a very decent monitor (have had it for almost a year, it seems quite reliable). The NEC may be better (it depends not only on the quality of the monitor itself, but also on the quality and reliability of the place you're ordering from).

CompUSA. I only have bought a monitor when the old one went kaput. I am not sure buying one from Newegg is cheaper considering shipping costs.

I suggest you buy monitors locally if possible since it's a lot easier to swap them out if you get a bad one.

I got a refurbished sony trinitron 19" from compusa auctions for $75+ shipping :) Go to www.compusa.com and click on the auctions link on the lower left.

...then I got tired of my eyes hurting and bought a Cinema Display at www.apple.com

roger on staples. i got my cheapo envision 17inch for $40AR shipped. free shipping from staples on orders over $50. i was able to get an envision 19 inch flat for $100AR but i passed. i say an envision should last a couple of years, and they are excellent buys for what they're worth

btw staples has one of the best rebate reliability among the online stores. woohoo go staples

THE BEST PLACE I'VE found to buy a monitor is DELL....
They will haggle.
If something is wrong with it they will send Airbourne out to pick it up and send you another in 10 days at no charge.

A lot of these monitor places will give you they runaround if you want to return a monitor. Make you pay freight etc.

Of course if you can find what you want local that will generally work too because of return and no freight.

I make a point to no longer buy at computer shows. Too many shady dealers there.

I just got a 21" sony from www.newegg.com with free shipping. One tip though, try to see the monitor at an actual store before you buy it to make sure you like it. I did that before i bought mine which is why i'm happy. NewEgg also has many free shipping deals so look out for those.

Another vote for Dell - I've ordered several monitors from them, never had any problems.

That said, one thing you do want to do is watch what Dell's webpages say. I don't remember what the exact specs were, but when I ordered my first LCD (Planar 15"), the response time listed in the manual that came with it was much higher that listed on Dell's site. There were a few other things out of whack with it as well as far as manual vs. site, but it still worked out OK. I kept it for about 4 or 5 months until I got tired of the low resolution; then another deal came along and I ordered a 17", again from Dell :p . This time everything on the site and in the manual matched. Go look over in the Hot Deals forums; you're bound to find something.

Just normal electronics stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. I just wait around for a good rebate deal.
