Where do you buy your eyeglasses from?

It doesn't seem like any one retailer gets constant positive reviews. I've been to Pearle in the past, as well as Wize Eyes, and a local place. Wize Eyes didn't give me the best prescription for my eyes, so I doubt I'm going back there. Pearle has been ok for me, but they do seem more expensive. Never tried Cohen's or Lenscrafters though. I don't know what other chains are popular besides these.

Also, do you get your eye exam at the same place?

My wife gets hers at Lenscrafters, and they do a great job.

Pearle (around here, anyway) is about the worst you can go to.

This small place next to my house in So Cal (well, mom's house). My family has known the glass fixer guy there for years. He always asks me about school, my family and such. Get discounts and everything. They carry the usual cheapy brands like 20 bucks per frame, and the designer ones like guess, armani, and others i can't think of right now.

Got my pair of armani's for 220 total.

I've gotten both my glasses and contacts at Wal-mart the past four years. Do the eye exams there, as well. Not bad prices, I don't think. Reminds me, I'm about due for another exam...

I got my eye exam from an optometrist locally.
I got my glasses for $25 cash from www.zennioptical.com.
Before you start laughing, they are better than the nike flexons with zeiss lenses that I got for $200 out of pocket and some $500 total if you include insurance.
The zeiss lenses developed hairline fractures in that frame.

I got one pair from UCB - they have their own optometry school, and as a student you get discount on lenses. But the frame was freaking expensive. Now I have a VSP insurance from my employer. Good discounts on frames, but I got reamed on lenses at a local optometrist. It's a no win situation.

Yes.
If you have an existing frame, it's easier because that gives you the temple distances, etc. Also, you should measure distance between your eyes if you don't know it already.
Just plug in all the numbers and voila in a few weeks (they are kinda slow) you get your glasses. I think anti-reflective coating is only $5. Try that at a local store. :D You can also get those frames with magnetic clip ons, rimless frames, etc.
I got the half rim ones, and they are nice. Not great, but good, and for the price, awesome. They are kinda like the two buck Chuck of glasses :D

either sam's club or costco will usually have the cheapest prices, I know at Sam's Club, you don't have to be a member to go. Just tell the card checker that you want to go to the optical. They don't make you be a member because the Optometrist (I spelled that wrong I'm sure) is on contract but not employed by Walmart or something like that and if they turned away people that weren't members, they would be limiting the clientel (I'm sure this is spelled wrong also, sorry). Can't speak for Costco though, hope that helps.

My current pair is from SEE... I like 'em- the frames are pretty nice and they were $200 including lenses
