If you ever needed more evidence the energy companies and oil cartels attempted to influence a US election, here's your wakeup call.

The GQP is in the pocket of both.
Given that gasoline refining is way down, which refineries closed?

9.4% to Sinema and Manchin.

All lot of the refineries that closed during the pandemic were the oldest and least efficient ones. When prices started to shoot up, guess which ones stayed closed? Do people really think petro companies are going to rush out and spend $$$ to re-open them when all that would do is hurt their profit margins? Of course, most Americans don't realize that all those products are bought and sold on international markets. It's like they think that the US market sits outside of that and prices are solely based on what's going on here.

Early on with the price hikes I was telling some GOP types griping about gas prices about how I heard on the radio that day an interview with a woman who ran a large farm and couldn't afford the diesel for her tractors and wasn't sure what to do. They were all very animated until I told them the story (courtesy of the BBC) was actually about a Nigerian farmer and the prices hikes were happening everywhere, even other oil producing nations. There was lots of blustering and denial and general "well we were independent under Trump" crap.

Care to explain why you posted a lie that:

“that Biden has pretty much exhausted the strategic oil reserve in an attempt to artifically keep the price of gasoline down until after election day,”
[/QUOTE]

I saw a news article that stated that Biden had sold off half of the strategic oil reserve in an attempt to lower prices. I'll admit that I did not do the legwork to verify the actual percentages sold off at that point - I allowed my general mistrust of politicians as a whole to convince me that he was doing something to his own party's benefit before the election.

Props to OP for self reflection and change.

The news is full of shit, and a good amount of it is hyped aimed to piss ppl off to drive clicks and agendas.

As long as you’re admitting stuff…

Now do this one!

We are going back to $5 because of Biden's risky schemes.

Highlighting text and selecting "search Google" IS very stressful and high-effort I know!

;)

Nevertheless good job admitting it.
He admitted that when he read 50% of the SPR had been sold off, he came here to post that ALL of it was depleted. :tearsofjoy: I guess that's better than nothing, which is what FelixDeClown's opinions are worth. ;)

I don’t communicate with FelixDe🤡, @Bitek.

He's not actually one of the two on my ignore-list but I can certainly understand him being on yours.

;)

As mentioned previously by myself and others, if one puts too many frequent posters on "ignore" (whatever you think of them) it trashes the flow of quite a few threads.

I need to ask those conservative friends of mine who were whining and griping about the high cost of gas being Biden's fault and now that the price of gas has been going down if they're going to credit Biden for that too. Their answers should be good for a chuckle.

The expectation of the House returning to American patriotic control drove down the price. Foreign potentates shake in fear of Speaker McCarthy.

>It might also be helpful to read up on how electrical storage devices are >affected by changes in temperature.

No kidding - and also consider the fact that in places that get a lot of cold & snow, not only do the batteries themselves have less available power due to chemistry/physics, but users would be putting a LOT more demand on them for defrosting windows, heating the interior, etc.

Without about a 30% increase in battery energy density, I just don't see how the current generation of electrical vehicles would ever work out for families here in the Midwest.

Plus, to actually make the electric vehicles benefit the environment, a lot of new green nuclear power plants would need to be built.
I haven't visited this forum in quite a while, but I clicked on the "Your content" link and was brought back to this [incredibly varied] thread. As ever, it's hard to believe that there are people on a tech forum who will take a slam on our pathetic two-party system so personally. I mean, seriously, do some of you folks actually know Joe Biden or The Donald? But I digress...sometimes you just have laugh...so back to tech.

My thoughts on the physical size -- and varied climates -- of the US are based on my years in uniform and all the different areas I either lived in or was TDY in. I also spent a career, both in and out of uniform, in the electrical field, so the fact that electrical storage devices lose stability in extreme climates comes for actual experience as well.

I'm sure that a few of our so-called "progressive" keyboard warriors will lose their minds after reading this, but a good old well-maintained diesel-powered engine will deliver a stable amount of mechanical power, as long as the fuel holds out, in just about any climate. A storage battery, on the other hand, rapidly loses stability in temperature extremes. If you're fortunate enough to live in an area where you don't experience triple-digits and/or sub-zero temperatures, by all means, make Elon Musk even wealthier than he already is, but, if you have to make a living in an area that experiences extended periods of temperature extremes, do yourself a big favor and read up on energy storage tech before funding Mr. SpaceX's return to his home planet.

Strange. My EV did just fine in 109F heat and below freezing. While the natural gas power plants shit the bed during both extreme heat and cold around here.

It almost like the underlying technology isn’t as important as it’s implementation and design controls for temperature extremes.
