I know Autozone used to do it for free years ago. At some point they wouldn't come out to my car anymore...but they would give me the tool and let me use it in the parking lot myself. I haven't tried it in years (haven't had a car with problems in the last 5 years), but I'm sure they still offer some service.

Advance Auto let me borrow the tool last time I went (about 3-6 months ago). I had to let them hold my license as collateral though.

not mine helping someone out. 2002 Yukon XL, pep boys scans it for free.

I believe Midas will do the scan for free, Aamco comes to mind for some reason too.

Yup, hes right. Mom and pop shops usually scan it for you for a very nominal fee or free, call around and ask.
