Where do the online people search services get their information?

I just plugged my name into ussearch.com and they showed that they had some records about me. I wish I had some extra cash to blow so I could see what they know about me.

I typed in the names of about 20 people that I know and the site said it had information on about 17 of them.

I don't know about that...they claim to be able to get you the cell phone number, address (even if unlisted), credit card use history, social security number.

These things are not public information. I have a friend that works at the dmv and they are not allowed to give out ANY information at all.

These "search" companies must use some other "means" to gather their information.

I don't know. Sounds like shady business to me. I typed in my name and a bunch of my friends but NONE of us had any records (but we're all ~18-20). Had records on my parents though but I expected that.
