reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10 because of a few issues, that I wasn't able to resolve. Now I am unable to access the windows share on this computer from my WD Livehub and I cannot see the windows share on my sons computer (also Ubuntu 12.10) The live hub will connect to his computer. The Live hub does see this computer just won't connect. I could access the live hub and the files on the external HD.

Where do I start digging to fix this. On my previous install it just all worked

It says it is failing to retrieve the share list from the sever. Could that have something to do with the hard drive in the Livehub dieing . It does act as a media sever

Sounds like Samba, not NTFS. Is Samba installed? Are smbd and nmbd running? (I have to manually "service samba start" them on my Linux Mint Debian box - not sure why.) Do you have the correct Samba user and password set up? And is the directory you want to share shared in Samba? (I've had a hard time setting this up with anything but Nautilus.)
