Where do I go from here? (Overclocking)

Hi all,

I am a rather seasoned OC'er (My first Overclock was a pentium 75) but I haven't really been in it for a while. I have a Pentium 4 1.3 GHz oc'ed to 1.41 GHz just for fun. I want more processing power for graphics rendering and well....who wouldn't want more juice. I really want to buy a 1.9 GHz proc but for my Shuttle Mobo and 423 socket its somewhere around 250 bucks. I don't really want to change mobos cause as you know its quite a process. So finally my question is: I wanted some feed back from some informed people (you) on what avenue you think I should go...i.e. do I buy a P4 1.6A and over clock it, do I spend the money on a 478 Mobo and new proc, just bite the bullet and buy the 1.9 423 proc etc... Thanks for your input in advance!

If I were you, I'd definitely get a 1.6A and a EPoX 4G4A mobo (about $255 shipped, CPU from newegg, mobo from MWave) the Northwoods are MUCH better than the Willamettes. They run cooler, OC higher, and have 512k cache instead of 256.

I would wait for the Intel price cuts around sept 1st, if you don't find a good price on the 1.6a. The 2.4 will sell probably for less than $200.

I agree with CrazySaint, for overclocking the 1.9 is not a good chip. The low multiplier of the 1.6a and even the 1.8a makes it the premiere choice for overclocking...good luck! :)

Thanks for all the feedback guys that was exactly what I was looking for...one last question which I think I already know the answer to: If I replace my Mobo I need to reinstall my Win XP Pro don't I? I abhorr reinstalling OSs but if its a must, its a must.
