OK, I have a partial list just from looking around. I just wanted to make list so I can keep them straight in my head. I don't deal with them on a regular basis so I forget what the speeds are for them. Is there a site that lists all options? Here is my partial list:

Dialup <= 56.6Kb
ISDN ~ 64Kb -128Kb
DSL ~ 128Kb - 1.5Mb (SDSL or ADSL - upload/download ratio may vary)
Cable ~ 1Mb - 1.5Mb down, 128Kb - 384Kb up
T1 ~ 1.5Mb
T3 ~ ?
DS3 ~ ?
OC3s ~ 155Mb
OC12s ~ 622Mb
OC48s ~ 2.4Gb
OC192s ~ 10Gb

Feel free to correct me or give me ones I've left out. Just trying to make a complete list. Thanks all.

Along these same lines, where is a good place to find prices for service (specifically in the partial T-1 range)...

prices vary soooo much from provider to provider that you really can't even get an accurate range that is useful. it is best to just get quotes and go from there.

i've worked for many telecom companies, as an SE supporting sales reps that sell T1s (both partial and full). the cheapest T1s i have ever seen were 250/mo. that included everything (loop, router, port, IPs, etc). i work for uunet now and we're around 1000/mo.

my experience has been that partial T1s aren't cost-effective enough to justify the less bandwidth. at allegiance, a full T1 was around $600. 512k was like $400. the only time I have seen a partial T1 make monetary sense was when voice lines were included on the T1 as well. for example, 512k bandwidth and 6 phone lines for $350.

anyway, back to the original question.... T1s have a 1) port cost 2) loop cost 3) router cost and 4) IP cost. some providers might include it all in one pretty package, while others will not. be sure to ask.

dslreports.com is a good place to get info on local providers and rates.
