Where do I buy a decent futon?

I keep running into scenarios where my single guest room isn't enough. I also want to put a love seat or sofa in my office. I'm thinking maybe I can kill two birds by getting a futon.

I don't want a futon that's not comfortable to sit on and that I'd feel bad about making guests sleep on. However, I looked around at a few dedicated futon stores and it seems like I might have to spend $1000 to get a half decent futon. A decent frame seems to be $300-500 and a decent mattress seems to be $500-700.

I'd like to keep the total price around $500 if possible. $700 is an upper bound. Any suggestions as to where to look?

I don't think Ikea does real "futons". They have a ton of convertible couches/seats though.

Craigslist? Best deal I could find was buying frame/mattress separately and just doing your research. Amazon reviews are nice.

It doesn't seem "socially acceptable", but I like having a futon on the floor with some big pillows. It's fairly cheap, and comfortable. It also visually identifies the weak. You know you can't trust people who use their hands to get off the floor :^D

Last futon I bought was at a small shop on Moromi Street. Though, that shop probably isn't there anymore.

You might try Rakuten.

Always put our futons over Tatami mats. Seemed to work better that way...

Amazon. Even cheap futons are pretty decent. Hard to screw those up. $700 is way way to much to spend on a futon for just a guest room that will not be used much.

We paid $1500 for a futon from an Asian futon shop in Reno.

Solid wood, amazing mattress.
