I'm trying to track down a good deal on one and I'm not having too much success. I've done a search at pricewatch, but I get a lot of systems and motherboard combinations in the results for the K7.

Buy.com has the Duron 600 in, but not the Athlon. I saw some listed at mwave (and some in pricewatch), but they're OEM, I'm looking for retail (or should I take an OEM version?). I was looking for the longer warranty though on the retail version.

Any suggestions on where I should look to get a good deal on one?????
Where did you get yours??????????

Thanks!!! :)

From Russ (the guy from these forums) at http://www.compucheap.com Yes, you can find them cheaper elsewhere. It is, however, one of the few places on the internet with phenominal service.

Oh yeah, he cracks for Team AnandTech distributed computing....you should too :p

well if i were you id go with the OEM that comes with the 1 yr warranty...if you get it past the first month it's fine...like once you set it... you usually wont have any problems. I would recommend getting a slot A tbird. Not too much more expensive maybe like 5-10 bux and you should be able to run it on like a FIC sd11 or a asus k7m! and most tbird slot a 700's have 900 cores. i got mines to boot into winme at 1 ghz at 1.65 volts..!!! =)

I always buy OEM chips from sites that have absolutley nothing to do with overclocking. I bought an OEM Athlon Slot A 750Mhz from www.Paragoncomp.com with no heat sink Now running Air cooled @ 1000Mhz (RDJD heat sink installed)..just call and ask a few service techs about overclocking. If they all ask what that is it may be safe to asume the OEM units are not overclocking rejects.

I like TCWO, who has quite a selection of processors found here. I've ordered quite a bit of stuff, as have co-workers from them, no complaints. The even have a 1ghz t-bird slot a @ $492. Oh yeah, forgot to mention all the Athlons they sell are almost always OEM, and unless you buy a golden orb or some pos hsf from them the warranty is only 15 days (but if you do buy a golden orb which is worth it warranty jumps to 1 year.)
