Where did this term 'ricing' originate from ?

that i know of its the noise a muffler makes compared to a rice maker. similar noises although ive never heard a rice maker before.

It origianted in the 80's when the Japanese sport motorcycles came to america... they were commonly called "rice rockets". The term slowly started applying to imports in general as "rice burners" and then when the import mod scene hit the US in the mid-ninetys, ricer became fairly common.

mostly just a bashing at the asian import scene when it turned ugly. It was cool for awhile when it was serious about pushing cars to the limit. But now it's just turned mostly into a decorative competition.

Japanese people eat lots of rice - Japanese cars - riceburners.

BTW: A rice cooker doesn't make any noise.

Harley Riders in the 70's and 80's poured derision on people who rode Japanese bikes. The expression "Rice Burner" originated here. Over time the term has come to refer to japanese cars as well and has led to new and equally derisive terms such as ricer and rice-boy.

Just remember kids, as I always say: If it is Japanese, it IS rice!

There is some debate and I cannot say with certainty where the term originated, but what has been shown is that it definitely goes back to the early-to-mid 1970's when both Japanese cars and motorcycles started being imported in some volume.

It has definitely taken on a few forms since then, like a lot of slang does. For some, it seems to be a deriding term for Japanese cars or motorcycles, while others use it with a definite ethnic connotation.
