Of course it did but I'm talking about the idea & the origin .

I'm sure someone knows someone that knows , for this is such a small world .

................... As in where the person got the idea for the saying , maybe from a song .... ?

I believe it was a slogan for budweiser at one time.

In addition, I believe it was said in the movie "Weird Science" :D

Just a marketing slogan, I don't think there was any cultural meaning before it.

Well , thinking can get you killed in this forum :)

Of course it was a marketing slogan & of course it was "possibly" Budweiser's department that thought of the slick words that still stick in one's head today , but guessing just does'nt cut it ............... Ask your Grandparents or Great Grandparents & see what they say .

I'm sure everyone will feel like they have it under thier belt when they know where the words originated from :)

Budweiser, has a memorable campaign created by the D'Arcy Advertising Agency of St. Louis. This Bud's for You campaign was introduced in 1979 and is still used today.

Charlie Claggett, the former managing director and chief creative officer of D'Arcy, says, "What made that campaign memorable is that it came out at a time when morale was at its lowest in this country. We were still suffering the effects of the Vietnam War and this campaign saluted the American worker. We used real workers in the campaign and each commercial showed people working all day long and then having a Bud at the end of the day." Claggett says keeping a campaign going is difficult. "It's successful because it hits the right cord at the right moment," he ponders.

Neil Young, in 1988, put out an album, This Note's For You, which included a song of the same title. The song satirized rock stars endorsing commercial products and took its title from the Bud commercial.

THIS NOTE'S FOR YOU

Don't want no cash
Don't need no money
Ain't got no stash
This note's for you

Ain't singin' for Pepsi
Ain't singin' for Coke
I don't sing for nobody
Makes me look like a joke
This note's for you

Ain't singin' for Miller
Don't singin' for Bud
I won't sing for politicians
Ain't singin' for Spuds
This note's for you

Don't need no cash
Don't want no money
Ain't got no stash
This note's for you

I've got the real thing
I got the real thing, baby
I got the real thing
Yeah alright
