Where did the term pwned come from?

it came from a chess game with deep blue where the computer mispelled pawned, meaning that he took the guy's rook with his pawn... the computer had a glitch and spelled it pwned...

Unfortunately nope. It was just a typo. Why so many people use this stupid term still bewilders me. I guess it's cool to be a stupid idiot and to be constantly using a spelling mistake.

this was from Ultima Online or even before in the diablo days... 1995-1996
the kewls dewds didnt type too well and always used to say i owned you!
well all too often becasue of the P being right next to O it came out... you got PWNED!

well for some reason it stuck as did the rest of L33t Spe4k and now we are stuck with it =-P
