Where did the other dollar go?

Three men went to a motel. The motel manager said a room cost $30, so each man put up $10 and went to their room. A little while later the manager realized the room was only $25, so he sent the bellhop back to the three guys' room with $5. On the way to the room the bellhop couldn't figure out how to split the $5 between the 3 men, so he gave each one of them $1 and he kept the other $2.

This meant that the 3 men paid $9 each for the room for a total of $27. Add the $2 that the bellhop kept = $29.

Where did the other dollar go?

Basic algebra...$9*3 = $27 MINUS the $2 that the bellhop kept = $25, the price of the room.

Oh, and the plane takes off, unless you're using supermassive tires and infinite acceleration.

Heard this one in 5th grade but...

$27 + $2 for the bellhop is incorrect. It is actually $25 + $2 for the bellhop, and then $3 change. The question isn't that tricky as it simply lies to me at the end to try to fool me.

Yep, its the way the question is worded that makes it tricky at the end. the $27 for the room is not true, because they each got a dollar back and gave 2 bucks. if you do it backwards it makes sense.

You post like mad. :D

I've seen better.

In case you're wondering, my PPD was at 35+ at one point, and I was making over 125 posts per day, spending at least 5 hours on ATOT 5 days a week.

But that's besides the point... I came in this thread to say "not again", but I see the work has already been done.

i kept up a post count of ~55 per day for over 1.5 years. my PPD never reached that high because it took me over 2 years to reach lifer. the next 20,000 posts came in 1 year. the next 10,000 posts came in ~180 days. i was well on my way to the next 10,000 posts when i was [imho wrongfully] vacationed.
