Where did the "Mouth-breather" meme come from?

It's caught on like wildfire in popular media these days. People seem to use the term liberally. I have not seen an actual "mouth-breather" in many years though, so why all of a sudden?

I dunno, but I love it.

Seriously... most retards breathe from their mouths.

Ever seen a nerd? They breath from their mouths because something just isn't right with them. Same with fat people. It's even worse with a fat nerd.

I just remember many many years ago, filling out a questionnaire for the orthodontist: are you a mouth breather? First time I'd seen it, I thought it was funny. I wanted to write, "no, and my knuckles don't drag the ground either."

I commonly use the term 'mouth breather' when driving...always some asshat in the fast lane going 63 blocking traffic...

Once you get around the car and peer into the drivers seat there is someone with their head arched backwards...who inevitably looks over with their mouth 1/2 open and a stupid look on their face!

Jerry Orbach (detective Lenny Briscoe) used that line to describe any lowlife on Law & Order.
that's where I heard it the most.

Hey I'm a mouth-breather when I'm running around or at the Gym. I assume most people are.

Hadn't noticed.

I'm more mystified as to where 'cougar' and 'throw me under the bus' came from. Seem too prevalent.

If you can breathe through your nose while running then you aren't running fast enough... or you've got some freaky respiratory system.

I have been running regularly for 12 years, and always breathe in my nose, out my mouth.

My Mom used to say it when I was a kid. Did not realize it ever became a meme.
