where did the expression "right in the mayor's office" come from??

was watching a golf tournament, and when the ball split down the middle, the announcer said that is right in the mayor's office

It used to be that they'd build mayors' offices right in the middle of the fairway. If someone actually hit it into the mayor's office, it would be a great shot but it would pretty much slow down city business and of course it would be tough to play a golf shot from an office.

In time, they stopped building offices on fairways, but the saying still remains--a nice touch of nostalgia

It came about due to the fact that most elected officials spend way too much time playing golf. The typical small-town mayor is a perfect example. I think we need election reform, and term-limits for all elected officials, and we need to ban them all from playing golf until they retire.
