Where did DeltaChrome go?

Now now, lets at least see what the thing can do and how well it does it before passing judgement. I mean Sis has managed to spin out a half-decent graphics department and maybe the VIA affiliated S3 will do a good job.

Although I can already see some seeing VIA and S3 the ultimate bad combination.

add SiS and Trident with S3 and Via and you will have a real winner

I predict it will be a great budget chip for suckers that don't value their time futzing with crap drivers. My god, look at how bad NVIDIA is despite how much time and money they put into software.

Probably because it sounds like too little too late. With the preview article of the link supplied in the first place it sounds like MAYBE it might be competition for the 9600/56-5700. Unless they've changed specs since then that would be better but also and indicator that they are struggling to keep up. And if you are struggling to keep up you aren't doing too hot (just look at nVidia with the FX 5800 Ultra which debuted so long after the 9700 Pro and simply wasn't a hot cake, well it certainly got hot... ;)) Actually another thing I picked up on was that DeltaChrome wasn't originally planned to be desktop, rather it was originally planned to be mobile all along but they decided to go desktop with whatever they had going. Now the specs would still make for a nice mobile part...

DeltaChrome is about providing good performance with minimal power consumption. It'll find its market in notebooks, SFF boxes, quiet computers, that kind of stuff.

Dunno.
PPL make out S3 to be bad. Their cards are actually pretty good for what they do, and for the price.
The Savage2000, for example, although it had bad drivers, and its T&L disabled, it still kept up with GeForce DDRs. But people forgot that, and just looked at what is bad.
I for one hope that S3 make a big splash with their new products, even if its just in the low end or in laptops.

I still remember my old Savage4 fondly, it replaced my old 3dfx banshee and it's performance was much better and it was supplied with a huge 32mb of memory as well. :)

As I've stated before I don't think much of the current mainstream range of video cards from nvidia or ati. If the Deltachrome S8 outperforms my Ti4200 then I will consider it providing they get the driver problems fixed before release.

Same here. I picked a Savage4 32mb PCI to replace my old on-board Matrox G200.

Savage4 was phat. Even being a year late and only sporting a 64bit bus it kicked booty on DooDoo with superior IQ, full color, high-res texture support, Motion Compensation and excellent video scaling and even features aside gave TNT2 a run for the money performance-wise, especially at UT with MeTaL. That chip was small and cool too, much more so than the Savage2000 which did not consistently beat it in performance. I spent many an hour enjoying Shogo MAD and Rogue Spear as well as UT and a bit of Q3 Test on an S4. Mem-or-ieees... ! ;)
