Where did all the MB's go??

Trying to clean up my hardrive (windows partition). When I set up my computer I partitioned my HD and gave the C drive for windows 9 gigs, thought it would be more than enough - not true!. I install all my programs on my other drive but I'm still running out of space. Well, I was looking in my local settings directory and it's showing up as 975MB but when I get into the directory the 3 folders only total like 9 megabytes....wtf? I see the hidden files, so it's not that. Anyone have any clues what could be going on?

I'd use a GUI-based disk utility to walk the disk and look in the directories to see where the space went, but that would only be a short-term fix to a significant problem. I suggest you find a disk management utility that will let you redo your partition sizes, and make one partition per physical hard drive... it's *much* easier to manage that way.

I could not successfully change the size of the Boot partition with Acronis' Disk Director.

Is it possible to change the size of the partition with Windows on it...?

I originally formatted the 320GB HD with Seatools, for the 137GB partition, and installed Windows. Formatted the remaining ~160GB in Windows, and I can change or create any number of partitions in the 160GB space, but I can not change the original 137GB.

Is it possible...? Can the OP change the size of his original 9GB partition with Windows installed...?

Another victim of the partitioning myth. Friends don't let Friends partition their System drives. Especially in XP.

Fat32 had this problem of eating space even when the files had been deleted. Can you move the files to another drive/partition and then format and move the files back?
