Where can you buy stereo amplifier-type heatsinks?

I'm going to make my GeForce4 run fanless (again), but instead of doing it the old way (using Alpha PAL6035), I want to use a very large (long) heatsink, like those for consumer electronics.

The problem is finding a store (in the US) that sells such heatsinks. Does anyone know of such a store? (A website with product pictures would be most useful.)
Thanks,
Leo

PS: I am still deciding between this method and using a low-profile Alpha PAL15 with a 5V Panaflo.
PPS: Take a look at this Japanese website to see what I'm talking about! This is completely crazy 🙂

I'd suggest posting a WTB thread in For Sale/Trade for a Vantec P3-5030. The heatsink itself is just about right. If needed, you can boost it out by means of a copper block as shown in one of those photos. If desired, you could add a duct across the top of the fins and put a little Nidec Gamma26 centrifugal blower on the end (at reduced voltage) and have it either pull air through the heatsink, or blow air down the length of it.

Just a notion from the eye of the brainstorm... 😀

You might also fish for the GlobalWin VOS-32 and/or the Slot-model Alphas. Got to be a lot of people out there with one in their closet...

I was also thinking... Alpha P125? 🙂 Unfortunately, these are 55mm tall and could easily block 2+ PCI slots. Any shorter Slot heatsinks?

Now, where could I get one of those copper plates for boosing the heatsink?

Look at the top of Cases/Cooling for vendors and see if some of them have "cold plates." Here's a sample, but it's only 1/8" thick: link

If you did pick up a slot-1 or slot-A Alpha, you could simply shorten the fins to a practical length with a Dremel and a fiberglass-reinforced cutting wheel. Wear eye protection if you do, ok? :Q

Hmm... after looking up all the specs, I am starting to hesitate.

My card was weighed down pretty seriously by the 175-gram PAL6035. If I put one of these 300+ gram monsters plus copper plate onto the card, it will be a disaster waiting to happen. I will need support strings tied onto the card (like the Japanese site), and the AGP slot will be seriously weighed down.

I am starting to rethink my plan... maybe the PAL15/Panaflo wasn't such a bad idea. Or I can wait indefinitely for Zalman's new fanless VGA cooler to come out.

Hehe, maybe you can find some magnesium sinks. Mg is very light. Or heck, beryllium. 😀 Just don't breathe the dust...

electronic equipment surplus stores. unless your waaay out in the sticks there should be somthing around .
good luck
