If you are concerned about some sort of "version checking" (to say it nicely) you needn't worry.

It's not that, sooner or later Microshaft is going to cancel it's support for Win 98 SE.

I cannot stand the newer OS from them and want to continue using it until something much better comes out.

On top of that, I just built my little guy a PC that does not have internet access and I want to install the patch so I can shut down the PC without it hanging during shutdown.

I think if you go to the autoupdate site, and get the name of the shutdown patch, you can then search the update catalog and d/l it without installing. After that, you just put it on a disk and have it ready.

(I know you can do this at the XP site, but it has been a while for me on 98se)

When MS discontinues support, they will probably continue to provide the existing updates and patches on www.windowsupdate.com as they did with Windows 95...
