OK, here's the deal. I was given a Lite-on 24-10-40 (black to boot :) ) CDRW. The drive has been damaged, looks like he dropped it and bent the corner of the case and put a small crack in the face plate. The eject button has been trashed. I have checked out the drive, opening it with the eject option in windows and burned a few cd's with it. The drive works flawlessly except for the fact that the eject button will not open it. I dont know if he didn't check to see if it worked or not, all he knew was the eject button didn't work so it was broken. Anything free is worth what you payed for it ! Anyway, the question is where can I send it to have a new eject button put on it. I am not a soldering man, so me trying to fit one from another drive myself is not an option. It only has two solder points so I would not think it should be that big a deal. I searched all of Lite-On's site and could not find any service info, so I thought I would try here first and see if anyone else knew before I start sending out the E-mails.
By the way, the corner of the case pulled out nice and it looks fine now. I have a Lite-on 32-12-40 so time is not a problem,(dont really need the drive) just want to have it as a backup or put it in one of my other systems. Any help or insights would be great. Thanks.

amdskip - I know for a fact I can't send this in under warranty, the guy pulled the back plate off breaking the seal. I just want to send it in to have it fixed. If it costes me $20 or $30 dollars its no big deal, it was free.

Sniper - If I cant get it fixed that what I plan on doing but I would prefer it to work with the eject button.

Thanks for the replys, any more ideas?

Also a third party repare place would work, I just dont know of anywhere.

Why not try a local TV repair shop or similar? - take the drive in, and ask nicely if they think they could fix the switch.

Most small places will probably say yes.

I had thought about that. My only concern with doing that is what kind of switch would they try and put in. I dont know if anyone has pulled their writer apart, or any other CD-rom for that matter, but the switch is really small (of course), and has two solder points. Presently, the switch has no response to being pushed. I would guess it would have some kind of return device to push the button on the switch back out after being pushed, I doubt a spring but probably a small piece of plastic of some sort. The switch itself is actually intact, it just doest have any feel to it when you push it, nothing to push it back out. I am planning on going to a couple local computer shops and see if they have any suggestions, I just won't have time till some time next week.
Thanks for the reply Mark.
