Anyone know if there's a race track in Mass or nearby where I can rent and drive a real race/sports car? I heard of these things in other states but not sure what to plug into Google...

thanks!

Lime Rock is a Skip Barber racing school location.

There may be a school of some sort up at NHIS, but that place has too much concrete for my tastes - Limerock has much more runoff.

There are no tracks in MA worth speaking of.

Just go buy a used spec miata for around $4000 :)
Or you can build one yourself for less. $2000 used miata + rollcage + strip interior.

Coming from someboy who has built two, I can tell you it's going to cost more than that...

That racing school looks like a wallet rape for $3000, considering they only teach you basic heel-toe downshifting and cornering line techniques.
You could probably buy a race sim setup for $400, learn those techniques, and start off at a more advanced school.

AHAHAHAAH if you think the skillset learned in race sim will enable one to skip a beginner course, think again...

3 grand is about right...you are using their cars after all...

Yeah...I don't think so.

Um, developing a racing line, heeltoe downshifts, and braking and cornering techniques all can be learned with pretty damn good accuracy on a good racing sim. And by racing sim, I mean a hardcore PC racing sim, not GT4. I've played around with racing sims for a few years, and when I finally got my miata and went autocrossing, the racing line felt pretty natural to me. I also started to learn heel and toe on my racing sim setup. I don't see why it seems so far-fetched to you.
But given that I've never been to a racing school, they might teach you more than that.

It seems far fetched to me, and I've been driving sims for years and am currently in two online leagues.

Anyhow, I'm sure the guys as Skip Barber will let you take the advanced course because you got GTR for Christmas LOL.

What's your setup?

Setup? What you mean controllers? Red MOMO.

I play in HSRL and PCRacer Leagues, both rFactor and GTR2.

Red MOMO is a pretty darn good wheel. But the pedals are far from realistic. There's no brake resistance, not to mention there's no shifter and clutch. A $400 setup would get you a much more true-to-life setup.

So where do you go to race your spec miata? I'm having trouble finding a track that doesn't require you to be on a racing team or to pay a exorbant amount of money.

I don't race them, I build them. The team I'm on races in SCCA, both SM and SSM classes. We race at Limerock (home track), NHIS, Watkins Glen, VIR (beautiful track!) and Summit Point. We've had the cars down to Road Atlanta as well.

haha thanks, I won't be building my own race cars any time soon (or supercharging what I drive currently), but I'll call research the tracks you guys posted about.
