Every toy store, electronics store, EB, and Babbage's was taking pre orders up to a month before the PS2's release.
Also, many chains had tons on hand if you got there early enough.

well i dont know if ebay has an archieve function or not but i am sure i saw people selling their reserved spot on the waiting list for PS2 long time before it came out....
News flash: You can't reserve a product that doesn't exist. Why don't they just start offering pre-sales of Playstation LXVI or the rumored Nintendo-Microsoft joint console?
YOU CAN NOT PREORDER A PS3 BECAUSE SONY HASN'T EVEN ANNOUNCED THAT THEY'RE MAKING ONE YET.
