Dell hosed us. They promised a ship date of 12/16 when we placed our order several weeks ago and changed it to the 7th of Jan when we checked our order status today. I need 7 desktops with 7 monitors (prefer under 18 inch monitors) by the middle of next week. Only requirements are 2gb+ of RAM and 2+ year warranty. Anyone have ideas? I am looking at Lenovo right now... We want to spend less than 600 per system. Ideally they would have a built-in wireless card, but the desperate cannot be choosy.

Are there any major manufacturers that are ACTUALLY shipping with decent speed? At this point it seems we may have to buy a hodgepodge of systems from retail locations.

Have you looked at places like Newegg or Amazon? They sell many manufacturers and ship faster and are probably much cheaper.

Yes. Almost all of them only have a 1 year warranty. I forgot one last piece -- we need SFF. I know there are a lot of IT people here so I am hoping someone has made an order from a major company recently (Lenovo, HP, etc) and can say whether or not their orders are as screwed up as Dell right now.

Dell has ready ship systems, did you try getting those instead? Getting those with next day air should have them there by Friday.

Have you tried calling/contacting Dell and asking what's up. Tell them you need it ASAP, and they might be able to work out something for you.

Yes. When you select those they do not even have a ship date. They say: "these systems are shipping later than usual."

Could be because next week is ... CHRISTMAS!!

Most places have already passed their "by christmas" ship date...

i doubt, unless you call and speak with a Business Account Rep anywhere, you're going to get ANYTHING next week.

Take a look at the Acer Veriton L460G. I just finished installing 60 of these machines at work. Fits your requirements. We purchased them from CDW. Comes with a 1 year manufacture warranty. Purchased an additional 2 year warranty.

Again, systems were ordered weeks ago. They were supposed to ship today and did not. New order status says 1/07/2009. Unless Christmas magically moved over the past year it is not an excuse for our order being delayed. They should have had more accurate times listed.

Costco has some $499 emachines with a 20" monitor. Videocard not upgradeable but nice nevertheless.

I was commenting on your befuddlement why you can't get new orders by next week... not old orders.

Bestbuy has a Compaq PC I believe around 349 with an 18.5 inch monitor. Just grab 7 of them. You wont have 2 years thought, unless you got the 2 year Service plan which I believe is 79.99 for 2 years. and you will have to buy Wifi cards. Around 480+ tax with usb wifi card(cheaper with internal dont remember the price) and 2 year service plan.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Compaq+CQ5205Y+Desktop+with+AMD+Sempron%26%238482%3B+Processor+%26+18.5%22+LCD+Monitor/9999122000050000.p?id=pcmprd122100050000&skuId=9999122000050000

If you you dont by the service plan they might not let you take more then one. Depending. Good luck. If you need me to check how much stock a store has let me know, I am not 100% sure I can do it, but I can try just let me know what local stores you have.

I ordered last year in the beginning of December from lenovo when they had a killer deal on a laptop. It was supposed to be like 2 weeks ended up being closer to 6.

I also ordered a new AC adaptor/power cord from them in early November. I am still waiting for that. Was supposed to be shipped in a week.

On the other hand, I had a broken hinge on the same laptop while under warranty and I got it to them, fixed, and back in 5 days.

At my old company, we sold HP business desktops to our clients, and we usually got pre-built machines in a few days.

I checked CDW, and some lower-specced HP Compaq 6005 SFF are in stock right now. With a wireless NIC and shipping, the computer will be around $600 (maybe slightly more).

And for the love of god, please don't buy your business computers from Best Buy. WTF?

Edit: If you're looking at this PC, check the dimensions to make sure it meets your size constraints.

CDW is extremely expensive.
