where can I learn about sr22 insurance?

My license was suspended for 30 days, and I don't have insurance because I don't have a car in my name. It seems that I need to get this insurance to keep my license. I search online to learn about it, but all I get are places that want to sell it to me.

Have any of you guys had it? How long will I need to keep it for? How much does it usually cost? Again, I don't own a car, but I do need a license. I am in FL btw.

SR-22 is (FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY INSURANCE). It is the mechanism in Illinois to keep track of insurance on drivers that have had a problem with the Illinois Secretary of State. It authorizes the Secretary of State to suspend upon cancellation of insurance (SR-26). Through the SR-22 and SR-26 process, mandatory insurance is enforced. For a detailed explanation of the SR-22 process in Illinois, click on this link.

The SR-22 certificate is issued in one of the following:

1. Operator's Certificate - This policy covers the motorist in the operation of any non-owned vehicle. If the motorist does not own a vehicle, the financial responsibility requirement can be met through the Operator's Certificate.

2. Owner's Certificate - This policy covers vehicles owned by the driver. The type of vehicle must be listed on the SR-22 or may be issued for "All owned vehicle".

3. Operators-Owners Certificate - This certificate covers all vehicles owned or non- owned by the driver.

The insurance must be submitted on a Financial Responsibility Certificate (SR-22) from the insurance company. The insurance company must have authorization to write financial responsibility insurance in Illinois and have "a power of attorney" on file in Illinois. The Illinois Secretary of State maintains a listing of authorized agents and companies.

Other Methods of Filing Proof

Different methods of filing proof of financial responsibility are available. Instead of the SR-22 Certificate, the individual may deposit $55,000 in cash or securities with the State Treasurer, file a surety bond, or file a real estate bond approved by a court of record.

So what'd ya get poped for?

DUI or reckless driving?

lol good question. He got something along those lines.

Nope, just 12 points in 12 months.

First time, an idiot guy hit me when I was turning, he was speeding down a turn lane to get around traffic and it was a bit of a blind corner, so I did not see him. Could have fought it easily, but didn't have the time or transportation, just paid it.

Second time, speeding ticket on 95. Going 91, did it, no excuses, just a long trip.

Third time, 75 in a 55. On an interstate highway, in the type of area that everyone goes 75. I was singled out. I was going to go to traffic school, lost the paper and though I had more time. Went there with I think one day left, was told that my license wouldn't be suspended because the points would be put on from the date paid, not the date of the offense. The lady was an idiot and told me wrong, so my license was suspended for 30 days. I had to take a long ADI driver course on the weekend and that was it.

I don't generally drink, and especially do not drink and drive or anything along those lines.
