Where can I get some muxing equipment

Talked to MCI today about combining 3 point to point T1's with a mux at both ends.

problem is, I don't know anything about muxing equipment.

Their tech guy recommended larscom quick eagle, but I can't pin point the one I need on the web.

I need one that supports atleast 3 ports, I hear standard comes with 4 ports. It doesn't have to be larscom, any brand will do as long as it's a good product.

Can anyone recommend?

You are looking for this. Nice equipment, does the trick. I've never used this but I imagine it would also work. Adtran also makes T-1 multiplexing equipment. Depending on your needs, you might also be able to just do Multilink PPP on a router without a hardware multiplexor. I would advise against ATM imux since you have to pay the "cell tax".

Last time we tried it in the Lab, Larscomm sucked compared to almost everything else. The buffering and circuit state change handling were marginal.

If you can find one, check out a 3COM 9600 IMux (Inverse Mux). It's got good buffering and recovers well from links dropping and returning.

I haven't played with the Atran, but I'd beleive it's a decent unit.

why not do MLPPP?

You can also so inverse muxing over ATM or IMA?

adding a separate mux just adds to the cost/complexity. what are you really trying to accomplish?

Some carriers are offering MLFR - Multi-Link Frame Relay: Kinda like IMA, but (usually) cheaper and less complex).

No special router or equipment needed (you *DO* need a router with an operating system that specifically supports MLFR).

Check with your carrier.

Have you ever used the Quick Eagle/Digital Link equipment? The DL3800 has always seemed to perform well. I've never had the pleasure of dealing with a Larscomm imux.

As for ATM imux... Who wants to pay the cell tax if you don't have to?

It's my recollection that the Digital Link stuff was pretty decent (or better). I't s been a while ... I'll check with one of my pals & co-worker who's much closer to the digital transmission stuff.

Hopefully I can follow up on this post tomorrow night (Thursday).
