I'm sure as many of you I got new computer stuff for chirstmas. For me it was an audigy with some z560s. Now that I have this great sounding system I was wondering where I can find some of those cool 3d sound files .ac3. Is there some hi-fi web site that has some? Also is there such a thing as a 5.1 mp3 or just hi-fi mp3?

thanks

Nobody encodes audio in anything but mp3.

You will not find any audio available in vqf, ogg, ac3, mp3pro, or any one of the tens of other niche formats.

You MIGHT find some stuff in wma if you look hard enough. But that is about it.

You can find some but, given the pervasive nature of the mp3 format, it can be difficult.

get on morpheus (or kazaa or any other file sharing app) and search for "thx surround sound test" in the results look for one that says something like "lucasfilm (or star wars) thx test" (about 8 mins) and "jurassic park t-rex test" (about 1:15). oh and make sure you turn the bass up on the trex one ;):D

I also have an audigy card and enjoy those enclosed ac3 files, they sound awesome, but I don't think there are many available yet. I know that ac3 is the digital signal from dvds, so just go out and get some good movies to really enjoy that 5.1 sound.
