I would prefer to play the game in its original language. Any idea where I can get the Russian version. I found Clear Sky on eBay, but the original does not seem to be there...

Yes. I am originally from the former USSR. The game Stalker and its name is a reference to a Russian science fiction novel by brothers Strugatsky, which is called "Roadside picnic." In the novel there is "Zone," visited by extraterrestrial life (note nothing to do with Chernobyl). It's full of artifacts and anomalies, and Stalkers are people who go into the Zone illegally. I am quite certain there is a lot of references in the game to the story, and they are likely to be more prominent in the Russian version.

You're right, the book and Russian movie "stalker" must have been the inspiration for GSC.

Do you have any family left that could possibly buy it and ship to you?

GoGamer.com usually have different language versions. I can't check from work to see if they have it though. You can try the stalker website as well. They had a lot of that kind of information available there during development. (It was one of the few games i followed during development.)

Very simple. Use bittorrent and download it. Yes it's illegal, but I doubt there's any other way to obtain it in US. Besides I don't think it would be illegal if you already own the English version that you bought in the store.

And yes, the Russian version is MUCH better than the one in the US. All the wonderful jokes, all the voice acting... All the funny signs and notes on buildings... LOST IN TRANSLATION. That's like -30% of what the game has to offer right there.

Check ebay - there are a few Russian normal and collector's editions available.

Yep, I've read Roadside Picnic. I've also seen the movie based on the book.

On a semi related note, I think the Russian language sounds awesome.

You could try to modify the English version's localization files with the ones from the Russian version, which I'm sure has been done already, but if not I'm still certain that it'd be easier to "find" the Russian localization files only rather than the whole game.

If you really want the game itself then I suggest trying to import it from a Russian on-line store, for America we have web-sites like Newegg, NCIX and eBay (and yes eBay can be international, of course), so I'm sure that there's sites like that for Russia/Eurasia. If all your attempts fail then I suggest you to go to the Russian GSC forums and ask there for more information on how to purchase it.
