Where can I get potassium chlorate?

I need some KClO3.... what is a fairly easy to acquire source, without going to a chemical supplier?

It is for a science experiment for a friend of mine. I'll be dammed if I can think of something that would have pure potassium chlorate in it. I only need 1kg or so. Sodium free water softener salt is potassium chlorite, so it won't work.

My brain hurts now. 😀

let's see now. Clorate == strong oxidizer. Strong oxidizer mixed with carbon or organic compounds == potential explosive. Lemme see here now. What oh WHAT could this "science experiment" be where an entire kilo of the stuff is needed. Oh goodness, I am JUST NOT understanding this. 😉

If you have access to solidox, that'll work. If not, use chemical supply companies, although they are fairly expensive. Whatever you do, don't be stupid about this stuff. A kilo of chlorate, crimey. And then you post on a open forum and leave a trail? How bloody old are you, you should know better.

do you know any like practical uses for it?

depends on what you mean by practical 😀

Cheers ! 🙂

<< That's what I was hoping you knuckledraggers could tell me. 😀 >>

ah...... i can remember hearing of it in chemistry...

😀

It is legal for me. Just wanna rattle some windows. It is to make a binary a little more sensitive. This cold weather is really screwing with my mixtures and det rates.

Exothermic science fair project. 🙂
