Use one of the free clones of ICQ, they don't have ads
Under Linux with LICQ- no ads, and lots of cool things like secure channels to other users.

Miranda-ICQ is an alternative ICQ client (around 300KB in size) for the Windows platform.

As for obtaining the old ICQ clients such as Mirabilis ICQ99b, you can find it at a website, I'm sorry but I forget the address. I found it by doing a search on Google. I searched for something like "ICQ99b download". Sifted through all the ones and eventually found it. The site is clean, no popups or annoying quirks, and the download is easy to find and transfer.
