Why hassle them? You can get it for $6-7 each from the major bureaus, after you get the free report. BTW, the car dealerships definitely have to pay to pull your score, so your friend could get in trouble for wasting the dealerships money when you aren't going to buy a car.

No friends at banks but I did call my bank and left a message to see if they could provide it to me.

Shocking!! That's because, not only does it cost them money (about $10-$20), but they also need the signed application for their government compliance (a bank can't pull credit without permission). Plus, then they'd have to jump through more compliance hoops when you cancelled the application (because you never intended to get a loan in the first place), i.e. turn-down letters, government monitoring for equal credit opportunity, etc.

Go to myfico.com and buy your score.

Funny you should ask, got an email from MyFico today about renewing. If you google, there are some nice 10% and 20% discount codes floating around. Total for me was $38.28 for all 3.

Two years ago when I was just thinking about applying for a loan I walked into the same bank and they checked my credit score before I even told them how much I was looking for. It was 885 then.

Uhh... I can't figure out how you could have gotten an 885 when the FICO score range is from 300 to 850.

the score from MyFico is just about the most reliable..since they are the ones who credited the system, and everyone else just makes spinoffs of their number to make you feel better..

I got my "inflated" score from one place (Experian I think)..and I was like..aww thats not too bad..then I got my FICO score...the same day I cut up all of my credit cards...

Another note on the Providian card score (from their website):
We display the Bankcard Industry Option FICO score. This score adjusts the Classic FICO score based on bankcard credit risk.

But yeah, it's really easy - you get a credit card and then you can check your credit score from the website under your account.

Edit: bbcode again. I should probably just compose replies from the popup windows.

Why are they so bad?

because it isn't free

you have to sign up for some stupid $9.99 per month service to get the "Free" report

Hey OP, you happen to miss all these posts? Maybe if you were a little bit more knowledgeable you wouldn't be pulling stuff from your ass.
