Shocking!! That's because, not only does it cost them money (about $10-$20), but they also need the signed application for their government compliance (a bank can't pull credit without permission). Plus, then they'd have to jump through more compliance hoops when you cancelled the application (because you never intended to get a loan in the first place), i.e. turn-down letters, government monitoring for equal credit opportunity, etc.Originally posted by: edprush

Two years ago when I was just thinking about applying for a loan I walked into the same bank and they checked my credit score before I even told them how much I was looking for. It was 885 then.
