Where do small businesses get their merchandise from? For example, a computer store, (locally owned). Where do they get their stuff cheap enough to where they can make a profit from selling it. I know stores like Best Buy etc buy directly from manufacturers at a low low rate per piece just because they buy for the whole company. I hope I am clear about what I am asking. Any help would be nice.

Can you be a little more specific, a few examples maybe? I know about wholesalers but have only found what looks to be crappy ones.

Thanks

If you have a business license, reatailers like techstore.com will set up a wholesale account for you . More volume=less cost to you . If you have a Compusa or frys or bestbuy within 30+miles of you,I would think they would eat you alive.

TechStore is no longer in business. All orders have been canceled. If you require further information, please email service@techstore.com

Any other help

Are you thinking about setting up a business? You'd better have a LOT of capital.

The discounts for small volumes are ridiculously small, maybe a couple percent.
You can do better with small volume purchases through a place like Newegg or other online retailer, because unless you're buying DOZENS of the same item, the wholesaler won't cut you much of a break.

there are distributors like Ingram Micro or D&H(those are the 2 major one's) and several others.

We often buy from some local stores that are owned by Asian families with connections & family, they can get stuff imported cheaper than most. They know the ropes. Other than that, I don't know.

We sell a lot of hardware, which we buy from wherever, Tech Data, Ingram Micro, Best Buy, Target, ebay, the guys on the highway. We make a profit on it because we charge a lot, but we are value-added-resellers, after all.

One guy we buy from on ebay fairly often gets most of his stuff on sale from the big box stores. (Could be an ATHD dude) It works for him.

Good luck, it's a tough business
