I've got a set of Henckels professional series knives that need sharpening. I'm aware it can be done yourself, but I don't really want to try it. Searching online and in the phonebook, I can't seem to find any cutlery type places in my area to bring the knives. Does anyone know of a place near Fremont, CA where this can be done? Do hardware stores or some other store I'm not aware of (cooking supply store) do this?

Aren't german kitchen knives really tough to sharpen yourself since they use hard steel?

No. I have a sharpening stone that I use for my Wusthof knives and it works really well.

And anyone who owns a decent set of knifes should know how to sharpen them.

Often and just to get that edge sharp.

I use the sharpening steel on my set of "excellent" by dorre knifes before cutting anything, keep them sharp and there will never be any need to let anyone else sharpen them.
